The musical Wicked – The Untold Story of Oz Witches arrives in Rio on July 15, 2026 for a short season on City of Arts Bibi Ferreira, Barra da Tijuca. The announcement was made on December 21, at the end of the last session of the São Paulo show season, at the Renault Theatre.
After three seasons of great repercussion in São Paulo, overproduction lands for the first time in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. The musical has been seen by more than a million viewers in Brazil, as well as reaching millions of people through film versions and streaming platforms.
Set in the Oz universe prior to Dorothy's arrival, Wicked presents the story of Elphaba and Glinda, two young people whose choices and differences shape their fates as the best-known witches on the Earth of Oz. The narrative is inspired by Gregory Maguire's novel and addresses topics such as friendship, courage, and intolerance.
In the main cast, Myra Ruiz plays Elphaba and Fabi Bang gives life to Glinda. The Brazilian assembly stands out for the use of cutting-edge technology, with effects of illusionism, unprecedented flight systems and projections developed especially for the show.
