The Aquarius Project promotes a special edition on September 19, at the Praça Mauá, at the Center, bringing together on the same stage singer and composer Leci Brandão, rapper Emicida and the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra (OSB), under the conductor Carlos Prazeres. The meeting, with free entry, proposes to bring together different musical languages by joining symphonic music, samba and rap in an open presentation to the public.
In front of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, Carlos Prazeres will conduct the show. Regent holder of the Bahia Symphony Orchestra since 2011, the conductor has a trajectory marked by performance in Brazil and abroad and works that transit between concert music and Brazilian popular music. Throughout his career, he has worked with artists such as Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, João Bosco and Hamilton of Holland.
Since 1972, the Project has the mission of bringing symphonic music to an increasing number of people, to help form an audience that, for economic and social reasons, did not attend theaters and concert halls. His focus, however, is not just classical music. In order to also value diversity, concerts with mergers of various musical genres have been promoted.
The highlights of this edition.
One of the highlights of the program is Leci Brandão. Born in Madureira and raised in Vila Isabel, the artist was the first woman to be part of the Composers' Wing of the First Mangueira Station in 1972. With more than four decades of career, Leci brings together 25 albums, two DVDs and a trajectory linked to samba and samba schools in Rio.
In addition to his musical career, Leci was also known for acting as a commentator of samba school parades. Since the 1980s, she participated in TV Globo broadcasts on the Carnaval Rio and, between 2002 and 2010, commented on the parades of samba schools in São Paulo. In 2017, released the album Simple So – Leci Brandão, for which she received the award for Best Samba Singer at the 29th Brazilian Music Award.
Rap also gains space in the presentation with Emicida, one of the prominent names of contemporary Brazilian music and culture. The artist began his career in the rhyme battles of the North Zone of São Paulo, in 2006, and gained national projection with mixtape For Who Already Bite a Dog for Food Until I arrived Far away, released in 2009.
Among his best known works are "The Glorious Return of Who Was Never Here" from 2013 and "AmarElo", from 2019, a project that received the Latin Grammy from 2020 and later unfolded in documentary, podcasts, tours and a presentation at the Theatro Municipal of São Paulo. In 2025, Emicida began a new artistic phase with Rational Emicide VL 3 – The adventures of DJ Relicia and LRX, a mashup-based work of his work with the Rational MC's. Currently, it also presents the album Emicida Rational VL2 – Mesmas Colors & Same Values, which maintains the tribute to the São Paulo group and reaffirms the artist's relationship with rap as a cultural and artistic expression.
The participation of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra completes the meeting. Founded in 1940, OSB is one of the country's main symphony sets and has over 70 Brazilian and foreign musicians. Throughout its history, the orchestra has developed initiatives aimed at the formation of audiences and democratization of access to music and culture.
The special edition of the Aquarius Project puts different musical traditions in dialogue and brings together artists of different trajectories in an outdoor presentation in the port region of Rio.
