O The New York Times elected 25 most extraordinary gardens in the world. And Burle Marx Site, located in the Southwest of Rio is listed! A unique place, where culture and nature find exceptionally. Located in Barra de Guaratiba, the site was the residence and workplace of Burle Marx, one of the main landscapers of the 20th century, known for its tropical gardens and the cataloging of new botanical species.
With 405,000 square meters, the site houses more than 3,500 tropical and subtropical plant species, as well as nurseries, gardens, lakes and art collections. Since 1985, the Site has been linked to the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (Iphan), dedicated to the preservation, research and dissemination of the artist's legacy. In addition to his gardens, Burle Marx was a multifaceted artist, creating engravings, sculptures, tapestries, paintings, tile panels and more.
Visits can be made from Tuesday to Saturday (except holidays), from 9:30 am to 11 pm and from 1:30 pm to 3 pm. The entry value is between R$ 5 and R$ 10 and schedules can be made by site. Thinking about the preservation of all the collections, the visitation to the Roberto Burle Marx Site is only done in a mediated way, and it is not possible to make a free visit to the site.
Don't miss it!
