The traditional Self of the Passion of Christ, staged in the Arcos da Lapa, arrives at its 48th edition on April 3, Good Friday, reaffirming its place as one of the main events of the religious and tourist calendar of the city. The presentation is promoted by the Archdiocese of São Sebastião of Rio de Janeiro, through the Episcopal Vicariate for Culture, in partnership with the Prefeitura do Rio.
Performed outdoors, in the city centre, the free show gathers faith, art and tradition and usually attracts thousands of people. The staging goes through striking moments of the trajectory of Jesus Christ, such as the birth, baptism, the Sermon on the Mountain, the Last Supper, the Via-Sacra, crucifixion and Resurrection, combining theater, music and dance.
With the text and direction of Luis Fernando Bruno, the assembly has about 50 artists, among actors, singers and dancers. The soundtrack was specially composed for the show and mixes original songs with traditional themes of religious culture.
In this edition, production is highlighted by the actors Caio Blat and Vanessa Gerbelli in the roles of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary, respectively. Both are recognized names of the public for works on television, cinema and theater.
In addition to the main cast, the creative team brings together Isabella Secchin (scene direction), Thiago Garcia (musical direction and choir arrangements) and Carlos Fontinelle (movement direction), among other professionals responsible for the performance.
