Self of the Passion of Christ in the Arcos da Lapa completes 45 editions on Holy Friday

The traditional Self of the Passion of Christ, staged annually in the Arcos da Lapa, reaches its 45th edition in 2025. The presentation takes place on Good Friday, April 18, with free entry.

Promoted by the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, through the Episcopal Vicariate for Culture and the Cultural Association of the Archdiocese, the event brings together about 50 artists, including actors, singers and dancers. The direction and text are signed by Luis Fernando Bruno.

This year, actor Ruan Aguiar plays Jesus Christ, while actress Isabel Fillardis takes on the role of Mary. The assembly recounts striking passages of the life of Jesus of Nazareth, from birth to resurrection, passing through moments such as baptism in the Jordan River, the choice of disciples, the last supper and crucifixion.
