São Cristóvão Fair celebrates 80 years with Elba Ramalho show

The Luiz Gonzaga Center of Nordestine Traditions, a reference of northeastern culture in Rio, is 80 years old in 2025. To celebrate the date, the party will feature the show of the singer (and godmother of the Fair) Elba Ramalho, scheduled for September 19th, from 22h, in the Pavilion of São Cristóvão.

Born in Paraíba, Elba Ramalho is one of the most consecrated artists of Brazilian music. With a career beginning in the 1960s in the band "As Brasas", she consolidated herself as a solo singer with the album Ave de Prata (1979). Known for its fusion of northeastern rhythms with pop, Elba adds hits like Back to the Cuddle and Bath of Smell, plus more than 10 million records sold. His stage presence and the promotion of northeastern culture by Brazil and the world make the show one of the most expected moments of the celebration.

A Cultural Mark

Founded in 1945, the São Cristóvão Fair emerged in the vicinity of the São Cristóvão Field in a post-war period. Over time, it consolidated itself as Center Luiz Gonzaga of Nordestine Traditions, gathering tents of typical food, crafts and cultural presentations. Today, the space has about 700 stalls that offer typical products such as food, condiments and crafts.

The northeastern cuisine is one of the great attractions of the fair, with dishes such as bayon of two, sarapatel and sun meat with aipim. On the two stages of the pavilion, the public can follow shows of forró, xote, baião and xaxado, among other rhythms, ensuring animation during the weekends. In addition, karaoke people scattered across space allow visitors to also release their voices.
