The legacy of Sebastião Salgado He's still alive. A Casa Firjan is the site of the exhibition Workers, of this great name of photojournalism, which left us on May 23rd. The exhibition has a collection of 149 photographs that explore different realities of work around the world, recorded between 1986 and 1992.
The visual archeology of Workers it proposes a dip in historical and cultural contexts, almost as an excavation of the past through visual records. The work highlights echoes of the Industrial Revolution, a period in which human labor, often without technological resources, was fundamental to the survival and evolution of societies. It is an opportunity to dive into a powerful and reflective visual universe on the impact of labor on the development of societies and the role of technological transformations in this process.
This statement sums up well the purpose of Salgado's work: to understand work as a factor of social and historical construction. Each scene brings a story, and Salgado's photographs show the dignity, strength and protagonism of the workers. In addition to the images, texts with historical and contextual information help the visitor understand the process and the importance of these offices, many of which have already disappeared.
