Rio is recognized by GUINNESS as the World's Greatest Réveillon

The Réveillon of Rio was officially recognized by the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS as the largest Réveillon on the planet, consolidating the city as a global reference in New Year celebrations. The brand was reached taking into account the number of 2.5 million people at Copacabana Beach in 2025.

The title was officially granted, on Tuesday (30/12), on the main stage of the celebrations of the Réveillon 2026, in Copacabana. The commemorative plaque was delivered by Camila Borenstein, Guinness juror. The title was granted to the event after analysis and validation of the criteria established by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS, considering the record number of participants, the magnitude of artistic programming, the territorial extension of the event and its cultural relevance.

The Réveillon party of 2026
Copacabana already breathes New Year's weather. The expectation is that more than 2.5 million people will follow the turn on the beach — a higher public than the population of 22 Brazilian capitals and a higher than that of 99.9% of the municipalities in the country. The party will feature three sand-mounted stages in Copacabana:

• Rio Stage, in front of Copacabana Palace;
• Samba Stage, at the time of Republic of Peru Street;
• Leme Stage, dedicated to gospel music.

For the first time, Réveillon of Copacabana will have new visual dimensions, with new structures, more technology and renewed scenography. The burning of fires promises to be historic: there will be 19 ferries distributed along the waterfront — almost twice the number used in 2024 — and 12 minutes of pyrotechnic spectacle, the largest ever held in Rio. This afternoon, Riotur and partners conducted the technical survey of the rafts. The show will also feature a show of 1,200 drones, in honor of the city, with synchronized images to fireworks and special soundtrack signed by DJ Alok.

Réveillon in Data

The World's Biggest Réveillon title, awarded by the Guinness Book, reinforces Rio's ability to lead major events, generating positive impacts on the city's economy. This scenario is detailed in the study “Réveillon in Data” developed by the Prefeitura do Rio, through the Riotur, the Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development and the João Goulart Foundation Institute. The survey estimates that the economic impact of the Réveillon 2026 reaches R$ 3.34 billion, a value 6% higher than that recorded at the turn from 2024 to 2025.

The expectation is that more than five million people will participate in the celebrations spread throughout the municipality. Only in Copacabana, the estimated audience corresponds to half of this total, bringing together cariocas and tourists.
