Rio again occupies a prominent position when the subject is quality of life. According to Global Liveability Index 2025, annual ranking produced by The Economist Intelligence Unit, the capital of Rio de Janeiro was elected to best city in Brazil to live.
The study, published by the British newspaper The Economist, one of the most prestigious in the world, evaluated 173 cities around the planet based on criteria such as stability, health, education, infrastructure, culture, environment and leisure provision, indicators considered essential to measure the well-being of the population.
With 70.9 points, Rio reached 111th overall ranking. Although still distant from the world's leading cities, the result represents a significant advance and consolidates the city as a national reference in quality of life. In the survey, Rio appears ahead of all other Brazilian cities, leading the national ranking.
The good performance of the city capital is directly linked to its urban infrastructure, broad cultural life, diversity of outdoor spaces, provision of health and education services, as well as its natural and environmental heritage, internationally recognized as differentials of the city.
