After five years, cariocas and tourists will again contemplate one of their biggest Christmas postcards: the traditional Christmas Tree of Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas. In its new edition, the floating monument will again illuminate the city with a structure of 60 meters high and 20 kilometers of LED and Neon Flex, creating a spectacle of lights that can be enjoyed from various points around the Lagoon.
This year, its inauguration will take place on Saturday, December 6, and the lights will remain on until January 6, on King's Day, a ritual that officially closes the Christmas celebrations.
Resumed honoring Brazil
According to the creators, the visual programming will have 45 luminous sequences, called “moments of light”, which will reveal typical designs of Christmas parties. Among them, the tree will bring a tribute inspired by the work Van Gogh's Starry Night, in which each star represents one of the 27 Brazilian states, alluding to the same symbolism on the national flag.
In addition, the act of lighting gains an unprecedented layer of emotion and interaction. In partnership with the Cristo Redentor Shrine, the inauguration will bring a totem with a green button installed on the Lagoon, which will trigger light cannons at the base of the tree, projecting luminous beams that will illuminate the Cristo Redentor. Then, other spots around the Lagoa will also enter the light circuit, expanding the show around the city.
The opening night will be a separate event, with live performances of the Symphony Petrobras Orchestra, on a stage set in Lagoon, as well as the emblematic presence of the Parintins oxen, one of the largest symbols of Amazon culture. For everyone to be able to follow the celebration, high-definition screens will be installed at two strategic points: Parque dos Patins and Mirante do Cantagalo, allowing residents and tourists to have simultaneous experiences, with the best of music, tradition and visual arts.
Every day, a person or a collective will be invited to perform the lighting ritual, reinforcing the spirit of participation and collective celebration of the date.
Lighting times
Friday and Saturday: from 7:00 to 1:00
Sunday to Thursday: from 19h to 0h
