Beco do Rato: samba contest honors Inacio Rios and Mosquito

The Beco do Rat Block is already ready for another edition of its expected samba dispute, which promises to exalt the best of Rio culture and popular music. Registration to participate in the dispute can be made on Saturday (8/02), in the samba house, which is in Lapa. This year, the honored artists will be Inácio Rios and Mosquito, the project Casual Meetings, samba wheel that happens every Thursday in the traditional space of the Lapa, with invited artists.

The contest will be held in two stages, on 13/02 and 20/02 respectively, with the participation of composers who will compete to pack the block during the Carnaval Street 2025. They may participate in the dispute all interested in composing new lyrics and music following the synopsis presented. It is mandatory to quote the Allo do Rato, the project Casual Meetings and their respective artists in samba.

Participation and Registration

All interested composers will be able to participate in the dispute with unpublished sambas, which must follow the synopsis presented and must cite the Beco do Rato and the Casual Meetings. Registrations are free and will take place in the Rat Beco itself, on February 8 (Saturday), from 17h to 9:30 p.m. Each partnership can be formed by up to four composers, and registration in more than one partnership is prohibited. In addition, the work must be compatible with the style "samba de blocko de embalo", otherwise it will be automatically disqualified.

In the registration, you must deliver 15 copies of the song's lyrics and write the composition on a pen drive or via WhatsApp, which will be made available on time. It is not necessary for the recording to be in studio, but it must be audible and of good quality.

Selection and Presentations

The selection of works will be carried out by the judging committee, chaired by Luis Caffé. The selected songs will go through an elimination stage in listening format, and the number of classified works will be determined according to the total number of entries received. The presentations will take place on February 13 and 20, with previous draw to determine the order of presentation. The partnerships will have three tickets to perform, accompanied by a base band.

Judging Commission and Award

The classification of the works will be made by the judges, with a score ranging from 5 to 10 points. Luis Caffé will be responsible for directing the trial, ensuring the autonomy of the process and transparency in the evaluation. Every decision of the jury will be sovereign, without possibility of appeal. The winning partnership will receive a prize of R $ 1 thousand, celebrating the creativity and talent of the composers.

General provisions

Registration in the competition implies acceptance of the terms of the regulation, which also authorises the use of images of participants for disclosure of the event. The organization ensures that any disputes will be resolved in a friendly way, with the Rio de Janeiro County Forum/RJ to settle any legal issues.
