A true classic of Rio's bohemian Smelly Goat's Bar will celebrate 80 years of history next Saturday (5), with right to party in the street and climate of fraternization. Located on Rua General Canabarro, close to Maracanã, the bar is a mandatory meeting point on game days, and now becomes the stage of the celebration.
The City has authorized the closing of the street in the afternoon to receive the event, which will have attractions for all tastes. Discover the history of the Bar of the Smelly Goat
The bar was born in the 1940s under the name Café, Leitaria Bonfim. The curious nickname came through a group of students from a school for the blind who attended the place and, noting a certain smell in the bathroom, compared with other bars in the region, and so the “Bode Smells” was born.
Today, the bar is a family business, which keeps traditions alive: the counter, the lead-based tables are still there, and the menu remains faithful to the spirit of the house, simple and striking flavor.
Among the most famous dishes are the fried sardine, the famous “grain bar” (loving nickname for the pork belly turret), the feijoada, the cressed radish, the knee (sales champion on game days), also have their fan club shrimp pies, chicken with catupiry, palm or rib, and the traditional ham with mayonnaise.
To accompany, beer in 600 ml bottle, well served caipirinhas and a competitive coconut beat complete the experience.
Recognized for its cultural importance, Bar do Bode Cheiroso was officially declared Cultural Heritage Carioca in 2023. Now, prepare to celebrate eight decades with the face of Rio: music, history, good food and happy people!
