After taking 1.6 million people to the sands of Copacabana, Madonna is back to the cultural programming of Rio. The queen of pop is the theme of the free show Madonna - Icon Pop, which takes over the cinema of the Rio de Janeiro Cultural BOX, between August 13 and 24. The programme outlines a complete overview of the artist's film career, including all her 21 films – two directed by her, 18 in which she acts, and a documentary about her most influential tour, "Blond Ambition". Tickets, free, will be available 30 minutes before each session.
The show, which takes place in the month of pop diva's birthday (16 August), invites its fans to celebrate together in the cinema and celebrate Madonna's importance in the pop imaginary in the last 40 years, playing light on less known works that were overshadowed by her success in music. Among the titles that will be shown are from classics such as “Evita” and “In Bed with Madonna” to rare productions, such as “In Search of Victory”, which marks the artist’s debut in cinemas.
“ Often attacked by criticism and ridiculed by the press, she was only able to be respected as an actress on time, as in ‘Susan Desperately wanted’ (1985), and in ‘Evita’ (1996). Despite this, his work in cinema is also extensive and plural, as in his musical career ", says Pedro Modesto, about Madonna's filmic incursions, always full of controversy.
The curator also recalls that Madonna worked as an actress with consecrated filmmakers such as Abel Ferrara (“Eyes of the Snake”), Warren Beatty (“Dick Tracy”), Woody Allen (“Neblina and Shadows”), Spike Lee (“Girl 6”), John Schlesinger (“He came to you”) and Alan Parker (“Evita”). "She was also the star of 'In Bed with Madonna' (1991), which portrays the backstage of her 'Blond Ambition' tour and then became the musical documentary with the biggest box office of all time. Recently, the artist also invested in the career of director, having made the films ‘Sue and Wise’ and ‘W.E. - The Romance of the Century’. All these titles are in the program. The films will be displayed in the Cultural Box Walk unit, and the tickets will be distributed half an hour before each session.
