On November 15, Rio will host the 1st Summit of Quilombola Voices for the Climate, a meeting that brings together quilombola leaders, government representatives and civil society organizations to discuss climate justice, territorial protection and environmental preservation. The activity takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Funding Progress, and dialogues directly with the discussions of COP30, scheduled to take place in Belém.
Promoted by ACQUILERJ and KOINONIA, the summit seeks to broaden the debate on the role of quilombo communities in the conservation of ecosystems, especially in the Atlantic Forest. For organizations, although attention is focused on the global conference, solutions to the climate crisis also depend on strengthening traditional territories throughout the country.
