One of the main gastronomic events in the country is back. From September 17, the Gastronomy River will occupy the Brazilian Jockey Club, at Gávea. The festival will bring together restaurants, chefs, gastronomic experiences, content and a musical programme with names of different styles. This year's edition takes place on three weekends: 17-20 September, 24-27 September and 1-4 October. Ticket sales began on Monday (10/08).

Riotur participates in the Gastronomy River

A Prefeitura do Rio, through Riotur, will be present on the three weekends of the event with the booth Rio Heritage Sites, which will celebrate emblematic bars of the city and highlight establishments that are part of our history and our gastronomic identity. The initiative values gastronomy as part of Rio's cultural heritage and presents to the public stories and references that help build the identity of the city.

Every weekend, a bar will be honored in space:

1st week – Urca Bar (17-20 September)
2nd week – Bar da Portuguesa (24 to 27 September)
Week 3 – Smelly Goat (1st to 4th October)

About the series

Created by Riotur, the digital series “Patrimonios do Rio” was born in partnership with the Instituto Rio Patrimônio da Humanidade (IRPH), with the proposal to value bars, restaurants and other places recognized as Cultural Heritage Cariocas, revealing the stories, characters and flavors that make these spaces part of Rio’s identity.

The contents present the trajectory of the establishments and the relationship they maintain with the neighborhoods, culture and memory of the city. The series is currently in its second season and can be accompanied by official channels from Riotur.

Since 2010, Prefeitura do Rio has recognized bars and boats as intangible heritage in the category Traditional and Notable Economic Activity, in a pioneering initiative in the country. Recognition considers the importance of these establishments for the culture, memory and everyday life of the city.

Participating bars:

Urca Bar

With one of the most emblematic views of Rio, the Urca Bar brings together gastronomy, landscape and tradition on the shores of Guanabara Bay. Famous for sunset and traditional snacks, the establishment was recognized as Cultural Heritage Carioca in 2012. In the booth, the public can learn more about the history of one of the city's most traditional addresses and its relationship with the Rio landscape.

Portuguese bar

Opened in 1972, the Portuguese Bar in Ramos represents the tradition of the suburbies. The typical scenario and the traditional cod cake are part of the identity of the establishment, which also maintains a special relationship with the history of Brazilian music: nearby was born and grew Pixinguinha (1897-1973), regular of the bar. Recognized as Cultural Heritage Carioca in 2021, the establishment leads to the Gastronomy River a little of the memory and culture that cross generations in the suburb of Rio.

Sniffy Goat Bar

On the busy sidewalk of the Maracanã, the Bode Cheiroso draws attention to the traditional greenhouse filled with delights and the famous turret, one of its brands, which ensured the receipt of the Carioca Cultural Heritage plate in 2023. In the Gastronomy River, Bode Cheiroso represents the tradition of the boats and the relationship between gastronomy, territory and memory that the series “Patrimonies of Rio” seeks to reveal.

Musical programming

Musical programming is one of the highlights of the Gastronomy River and brings together artists and groups of different styles over the three weekends. The schedule walks through rock, samba, MPB, pagoda and forró, creating a varied soundtrack to accompany the gastronomic experience of the festival.
