One of the country's main gastronomic events is back in Rio. The Gastronomy River 2026 takes place in Brazilian Jockey Club on three weekends: 17-20 September, 24-27 September and 1-4 October. The festival brings together restaurants, chefs, gastronomic experiences, content and diverse musical programming.
This year, Prefeitura do Rio, through Riotur, participates in the event with the Rio Heritage stand, which celebrates emblematic bars recognized as Cariocas Cultural Heritage Sites and highlights gastronomy as part of the history, culture and identity of the city.
Each weekend, an establishment will be honored in space, with a special program that includes the presentation of its flavors and its history: Bar Urca, from 17 to 20 September; Bar da Portuguesa, from 24 to 27 September; and Bode Smeloso, from 1st to 4th October.
The initiative is part of Rio's digital heritage series, created by Riotur in partnership with the Instituto Rio Patrimônio da Humanidade (IRPH). The project features stories, characters and flavors of bars, restaurants and other spaces recognized as Cultural Heritage Cariocas.
In its second season, the series highlights the relationship of these establishments with the neighborhoods where they are located and with the memory, culture and identity of Rio. The contents can be accompanied by official channels of Riotur.
Now, the public can also know and experience some of this history during the Gastronomy River. Check out the menus each establishment has prepared for your participation in the festival:
Urca Bar
With one of the most emblematic views of Rio, the Urca Bar combines gastronomy, landscape and tradition on the shores of Guanabara Bay. Known for sunset and traditional snacks, the establishment was recognized as a Carioca Cultural Heritage Site in 2012.

Recognized as Cultural Heritage Carioca in 2021, he also maintains a special relationship with the history of Brazilian music, since Pixinguinha (1897–1973), who was born and grew up nearby, was a frequenter of the bar.
