Rio becomes the world capital of the harp in July with the third week of the XX RioHarpFestival, which promises unprecedented performances by musicians from China, Japan and Latin America in cultural spaces such as the CCBB RJ, Sesc Flamengo, Federal Justice Cultural Center, Jockey Club and other parts of the city.
Inserted in the world harp calendar, the festival highlights this instrument of ancestral origins with 84 daily and uninterrupted presentations, in the CCBB RJ and various cultural spaces scattered throughout the city. The third week of RioHarpFestival begins by highlighting renowned musicians from Latin America and Asian countries.
Brazil's cooperation with Asian countries goes beyond diplomacy: this year the organization has invested in cultural exchange with China and Japan to surprise its captive audience with unprecedented concerts in the country. The program has its highlight since this week, when they arrive in Brazil and Rio for the first time, a group of 10 Chinese harpists, between teachers and students, from the Beijing General Conservatory of Music. Under the coordination of Professor and Master's Supervisor, harpist Xi Wang, there will be 5 (five) concerts until July 20, at CCBB RJ. The festival includes harpists Chunxi Wei, Jieying Zheng, Zhuoning Yang (harps); Xi Wang (harp); Yiyang Chen, Ruoyin Yang (harps); Jiayi Wen, Yun Chen (harps); Xiaoyan Bai, Jinxuan Guo, Quejun Yin, Weishi Li, (harps).
In addition to the unprecedented presentations, the Chinese group participates in the exchange with foreign and Brazilian harpists. On Sunday, day 20/7, at 5 pm, at CCBB Rio, the group “Tambores of Japan”, taiko, traditional Japanese drums perform synchronized, powerful and visceral performances. They will have special participation of Portuguese harpist Lara Fonseca. On 22 July, at 14:00, at the Federal Justice Cultural Center (CCJF) the Fujiyama Nippon group of São Paulo (Brazil) promises an engaging presentation with the koto, the traditional Japanese harp. The renowned Japanese harpists Kaori Ogawa and Miya Otake, who perform on July 23 and 24 at the CCBB, then arrive at Rio.
They also arrive at RioHarpFestival 2025, European harpists, consecrated, such as Lara Fonseca (Portugal); Eloise Labaume (France); Francesca Romana Di Nicola and Alba Brundo (Italy), as well as Duo Earth & Rose with Italian musicians, Alberto Rosas (Flute) and Francesco Romana Di Nicola (harpa). From Spain, the festival brings the Duo Thais Tejeda del Rio and the harpist, Lidia del Rio. From Austria, Edith Gasteiger (harp); from Belgium, Jacques Vandevelde (harp) and Naja Mohoric (harp) – Slovenia.
RioHarpFestival is part of the Music project at the Museum - Immaterial Cultural Heritage of the city of Rio de Janeiro, which celebrates 28 years and is considered the largest classical music series in Brazil. The project has a history of success, with over 1 million and 200,000 spectators and, as mentioned earlier, more than 30 national and international awards.
