The acclaimed show "A Cor Purple, o Musical", original production aired between 2005 and 2008 from Broadway, exhibited between 2005 and 2008 and nominated eleven times, with two out of eleven Tony Award nominations in 2006, arrives at the Carlos Gomes Municipal Theatre, on August 28 and is on display until September 22.
The superproduction, based on Alice Walker's novel and adapted for the cinema in 1985 by Steven Spielberg, narrates the trajectory of Celie, a black woman who faces challenges in the South of the United States during the first half of the 20th century, thrills by the strength of her narrative and the surrounding soundtrack, which mixes gospel, jazz, ragtime and blues. Production addresses timeless social issues such as inequality, racism, machismo and violence against women, offering a deep and reflective theatrical experience.
