The São Sebastião Race opened the registration for the 35 year commemorative edition, which will be held on January 20, 2026, at the Aterro do Flamengo. Traditionally responsible for inaugurating the official calendar of sports events in Rio, the race must gather professional athletes, amateur runners and racing teams from various regions of the country.
Recognized as one of the most popular street competitions among the Cariocas, the race again occupies one of the most emblematic scenarios in the city, with routes of 5 km and 10 km. For the 2026 edition, the organization announced important changes: the journey in the Aterro do Flamengo will be adjusted and released soon, and the start will take place at 6:30, taking into account the high summer temperatures.
Over more than three decades of history, the São Sebastião Race has had the participation of national and international elite runners such as Paskalia Kipkoech, Edwin Rotich, Rejane Ester Bispo da Silva, Solange Mariano, Giovane dos Santos, Gilmar Silvestre Lopes and Eliezer de Jesus Santos. In addition to the consecrated names, the event also stands out for the strong presence of amateur athletes, many of them regular participants who return annually to celebrate the sport in the heart of the city.
