The cultural exchange between Brazil and China gains a new chapter in Rio with the inauguration of Petrobras Room – Portinari in China, no National Historical Museum From August 12th. The exhibition space was conceived by the Portinari Project as an extension of the show "O Brasil de Portinari", currently on display at the China National Museum in Beijing, allowing the Brazilian public to accompany part of this international experience.
The initiative integrates the programming of the Brazil–China 2026 Cultural Year, which celebrates the 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. As part of this exchange, while Candido Portinari's work is presented to the Chinese public, the National Historical Museum also receives the exhibition "Sabores of Tradition: history of food in ancient China", dedicated to the history and customs of Chinese culture.
The Petrobras – Portinari Room in China offers an immersive experience of the cultural ties between Brazil and China through the trajectory of the Brazilian artist. The space gathers records of the exhibition held in Beijing, as well as original objects related to the universe of Portinari and cultural elements coming from the Chinese capital, providing an approximation between the two cultures.
Visiting the two exhibitions takes place until October 11th, offering visitors the opportunity to know, in the same itinerary, different aspects of Brazilian artistic production and Chinese cultural heritage. The programming reinforces the role of the National Historical Museum as a space for dialogue between different traditions and the appreciation of international cultural exchange.
