Located in one of the most emblematic places in the city, the Pedra do Sal, in the region known as Small Africa, in the Center, is the ideal request for those seeking to experience the history and essence of samba. it was a point of arrival of thousands of enslaved africans during the colonial period and became a cradle of cultural resistance. It was there that black communities kept alive their traditions, such as candomblé, capoeira and music, giving rise to samba as it is known today. Currently, on Mondays in Rio de Janeiro and tourists can take advantage of the outdoor samba wheels that fill the place with energy, with artists who keep alive the tradition of samba roots. The song is also on Thursday to Sunday.
Nearby, the port region offers historical and cultural attractions such as the Museu do Amanhã, the MAR and the New Blacks Institute, which preserves the memory of enslaved Africans. With a mixture of history, music and culture, the Pedra do Sal is a true portrait of the carioca soul, where past and present meet.
