The project “Symphonic MPB4“ brings together the Symphony Petrobras Orchestra and the MPB4 group on the stage of the Riachuelo Rio Theatre, in the Center, on October 28, at 8 p.m. Under the rule of conductor Felipe Prazeres, the presentation celebrates the trajectory of the group in a meeting between four voices that go through generations and the sound of a symphonic formation.
In the repertoire, classics of Brazilian popular music gain new arrangements for orchestra, including “Despite you”, “Olé Hello” and “Rhoda Viva”, by Chico Buarque; “Samba do Avião”, by Tom Jobim; “Porto”, by Dori Caymmi; “News of Brazil”, by Milton Nascimento and Fernando Brant; and “O Ronco da Cúica”, by João Bosco and Aldir Blanc, among other songs.
The partnership between MPB4 and the Symphony Petrobras Orchestra originated in a concert held in 2024, during the celebrations of the 60 years of MPB. The presentation gave rise to the album “Symphonic MPB4”, recorded in the orchestra’s rehearsal room, in the Progress Foundry. The project brings together arrangements by Jaime Alem, Itamar Assiere, Gilson Santos and Paulo Malaguti Pauleira, bringing together different formations and generations of Brazilian music.
