After three years of stage travel in Brazil and abroad, the project “Mãeana Canta JG” comes to an end with a special presentation in Rio. On Friday, August 21, the maternal singer returns to the Flying Circus, at Lapa, for the farewell of the show that brings together two musical universes represented by João Gilberto and João Gomes.
The presentation proposes an unusual meeting between bossa nova and piseiro, crossing the repertoire of two artists who, despite the differences in styles and generations, have in common the strength of their interpretations and the connection with Brazilian popular music. On stage, Mamanas sews songs of the two Joãos in a proposal that brings urban and rural references.
The idea of the project came from a coincidence: João Gilberto and João Gomes have the same initials and are linked to neighboring cities of the San Francisco Valley, Juazeiro and Petrolina. From this connection, Mamana created a spectacle that transforms the distance between bossa nova and piseiro into a starting point for new interpretations.
