“Luiz Gama – A Voice for Freedom” will be on display on August 20, at the Clara Nunes Theatre. Based on the life and work of the lawyer, poet and abolitionist Luiz Gama, the show portrays his trajectory of fighting slavery in 19th century Brazil. The montage highlights their legal texts in defense of enslaved people, as well as satirical poems that denounced the injustices of the time. The narrative parallels the slave period with contemporary Brazil, suggesting that abolition is still an achievement under construction. Combining drama, humor and satire, the actors give life to Gama's ideas, emphasizing the strength of his word and the impact of his actions.
