Rio receives in June the Volleyball Nations League (VNL), which is an annual competition organized by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), bringing together the best men and women selections in the world. Created in 2018 to replace the World League (male) and the Grand Prix (female), the VNL has a dynamic format, with qualifying phase and finals, promoting high-level games throughout the season. In addition to offering cash prizes, the competition serves as preparation for tournaments such as the World Championship and the Olympic Games.
