After public success in 2024, the play In the name of Mother arrives at the Adolpho Bloch Theatre. The monologue, starring Suzana Nascimento, proposes a rereading of the figure of Mary of Nazareth, highlighting his trajectory from a female and humanized perspective.
After public success in 2024, the play In the Name of the Mother arrives at the Adolpho Bloch Theatre. The monologue, starring Suzana Nascimento, proposes a rereading of the figure of Mary of Nazareth, highlighting his trajectory from a female and humanized perspective.
Inspired by the homonymous work of Italian writer Erri de Luca, the show narrates the journey of a poor, unmarried and pregnant young woman in a conservative society. Far from the sanctified image that history has consecrated, Mary emerges as a woman who faces prejudices, persecutions and uncertainties.
With the direction of Miwa Yanagizawa, the assembly was sold out last year and won five nominations at the International Festival of Angra Theatre (FITA), winning in the categories Best Actress and Special Category. The audiovisual version, released in 2022, was also awarded the 16th APTR Prize, receiving four trophies, including best show and best direction.
In addition to the play, the season will feature the exhibition “In the beginning was the woman”, installed in the foyer of the theater. The exhibition brings together about 12 works, between embroidery in tree leaves and other materials, created by Suzana Nascimento within the Botica de Histórias project.
