THE Rio de Janeiro Cultural Box is shown “From dream to reality: cinema and artificial intelligence”, which is still on display until next Sunday with free programming. The event brings together classics and contemporary works that explore, from different perspectives, the presence of technology in the seventh art — and how cinema has been reflecting, for almost a century, human anguish and hope in the face of the advancement of machines.
Among the programming highlights are titles such as Matrix (Lana and Lilly Wachowski, 1999), Robocop – The Cop of the Future (Paul Verhoeven, 1987), A.I. – Artificial Intelligence (Steven Spielberg, 2001) and 2001: A Space Odyssey (Stanley Kubrick, 1968). The selection also includes rarities such as THX 1138 (1971), George Lucas' first long, Soviet Loss of Sensation (Alexandr Andriyevsky, 1935), one of the first films to portray robots, as well as The Mechanical Man (André Deed, 1921) Mechanical Ballet (Fernand Léger, 1924), shown in special session with live soundtrack by Vasconcelos Feeling and participation of an artificial intelligence.
