In celebration of his 80-year career, Fernanda Montenegro presents a scenic reading of Simone de Beauvoir's work at the VillageMall Theatre. The show highlights the libertarian thought of the French philosopher (1908–1986), a central figure in the feminism of the twentieth century, and also recalls his intense intellectual and affective partnership with Jean-Paul Sartre (1905–1980).
The idea of reading arose in 2007, when actor and director Sérgio Britto proposed the project to Fernanda. At the time, Britto was already facing serious health problems, and the assembly did not come true. Years later, the actress resumes the project as a way to honor both Beauvoir's legacy and the memory of her stagemate.
The proposal brings to the public not only reflections on the female condition, but also excerpts that reveal the existential, political and affective dimension of Beauvoir's thinking — in direct dialogue with contemporary issues.
