More than seven decades after it was written by Samuel Beckett, “Departure” continues to provoke reflections on power, human relations, and a world marked by a sense of exhaustion. The work wins a new montage in Rio, with Marco Nanini, Guilherme Weber, Helena Ignez and Ary France in the cast. The show premieres on August 20 at Total TheaterEnergies - Sala Adolpho Bloch, in Gloria, after a short season during the second edition of the Rio Theatre Festival.
Written by the Irish playwright in the 1950s, under the impact of World War II, the play presents a post-apocalyptic scenario inhabited by characters living between dependence, waiting and lack of prospects. In the center of history are Hamm and Clov, trapped in a claustrophobic environment and involved in a relationship marked by violence, daily cruelty and complex physical and emotional dependence.
In the new montage, directed by Rodrigo Portella, the relationship between the characters also gains a political dimension. Hamm, interpreted by Marco Nanini, represents an authoritarian and tyrannical figure, while Clov, lived by Guilherme Weber, appears as a body subjected to a routine of obedience and vigilance.
