The show “DeNegrir” arrives in Rio with a direct and urgent proposal: to discuss as expressions of everyday life — such as “denegrating”, “mutely created” and “doing on the thighs” — carry racist senses that go through centuries and continue impacting the lives of the black population. The assembly will circulate through cultural equipment of the city between November 22 and 30, inviting the public to reflect on language as a tool of oppression, but also of resistance.
Idealized and directed by Salasar Junior, who debuts as a soloist alongside director Fábio França, “DeNegrir” combines dance, theater, poetry, videographism and Libras in a multilingual work guided by Afro-diaspora aesthetics. The spectacle is structured as a territory of denunciation — by exposing the structural racism present in the Portuguese language — and, at the same time, by celebrating the memory and knowledge of black ancestry.
