The play “Before you tell me other stories”, prepared by the Teatral Sonharteiros Cia, is on display at the Teatro Correios Léa Garcia. The work starts from the desire to rescue and revisit the Afro-Brazilian narratives that were silenced or distorted by colonization. With direction of movement of Aedda Mafalda and direction of staging of Cridemar Aquinas, the spectacle intertwines theater, dance and ancestry to propose a sensitive and forceful reflection on identity, belonging, structural racism and collective memory.
At the center of the narrative is the water, symbol of crossing, hope, longing and resistance. It is from it that the bodies on the scene — loaded with stories and experiences — move, dance, resist and dream. The montage proposes a movement of Sankofa, an African concept that invites us to look to the past as a way to rebuild the future.
