Bar do Bode Smelly 80 Years

A true classic of Rio's bohemian, the Bar of the Bode Smells will celebrate 80 years of history next Saturday (5), entitled to a party in the street and a climate of fraternization. Located on Rua General Canabarro, close to Maracanã, the bar is a mandatory meeting point on game days, and now becomes the stage of the celebration.

The lively wheel of Listening Samba, who made history in the Center of Rio, a public lecture by historian Luiz Antônio Simas, frequenter of the bar, and a theatrical presentation telling the story of the “Bode”, as the bar is affectionately called. The bar was born in the 1940s under the name Café, Leitaria Bonfim. The curious nickname came through a group of students from a school for the blind who attended the place and, noting a certain smell in the bathroom, compared with other bars in the region, and so the “Bode Smells” was born.
