Portuguese Adegano - São Cristóvão

The hall of the Portuguese Adegão deceives: when entering, it is difficult to imagine that the restaurant is already over 50 years old. The most recent reform five years ago renewed the visual identity of the space (making ubiquitous the Portuguese mustache of the brand) and installed wi-fi. But loyal customers remain – there is even a plaque in homage to the captive place of the frequenter who inspired the Cod of Maraca.

The dishes are in constant renewal, without losing the Portuguese essence. The options include roast duck, tongue, piglet, crustaceans, birds and game... But the star is cod: it is served in stand, shredded, fried or chipped, with different accompanying options. Perhaps the only dish more captivating than the Portuguese classic is the pave called “Christmas of Heaven”. The creation of the baker Wagner Milk is made of biscuit farofa, whipped cream beaten with cream cheese and egg cream. The success is so great that customers carry platters from home for the chef to mount the pot. Anyone who doesn't like eggs that much can order the Blackberry Cup: the same candy, with blueberry jam instead of egg cream.

The Adegano conquers customers with food but mainly with the team that has worked there for decades. The establishment was recognized as Cultural Heritage Carioca in 2025.
