Nosso Ateliê Nelson Crisóstomo
Our workshop in Santa Teresa is led by Nelson Chrysostom, a contemporary and sustainable painter. It combines innovative techniques for reuse and resource optimization with traditional craft skills, resulting in authentic and original works that represent your Afrodescendant identity and affective memories.
Located in the heart of Santa Teresa, Our Studio, led by painter Nelson Chrysostom, presents a contemporary and sustainable approach to art. The artist uses innovative techniques for reuse and resource optimization, combining traditional craft skills with family technology.
Since the 1970s, Nelson has been dedicated to the painting of fabrics, using materials available locally and following the methods of families in the region. In Our Studio, you will find high quality, authentic and original works of art.
Nelson is an unconventional artist whose life history and artistic methods are shaped by his affective memories and afrodescendant identity. He wanders the world collecting materials that feed his artistic repertoire, drawing inspiration from the routes and affective memories.
The artist's studio is a complex symbolic space, similar to an Ile of Afro-diaspora religion, where his productions in various media occur, including textiles, paintings and performances. Nelson incorporates in his art the ancestral layers, using pigments, clay and urucum to represent the presence of Africa.
