Municipal Natural Park Penhasco Two Brothers
From any of the four viewpoints, it is possible to have a privileged view of the great sights of Rio de Janeiro.
The Park located in the Leblon was created in 1992, in an environmental preservation area with 39.55 hectares. From the wooden decks you can see some of the most important postcards in the city: Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Jardim Botânico, Corcovado and the beaches of Leblon and Ipanema.
On the trails of the park it is possible to observe botanical species, such as the orchid-of-the-stones, the anturia-of-the-stones, the vellozia-white and bromeliads, as well as animals such as nail monkey, squirrels and various species of birds. The blue butterfly is often observed. In the small lake of the park, located in the Forest of Friendship, beautiful nymphies give a special touch to the environment.
High point of the walk, the park has six viewpoints, very wanted by visitors who want to have a privileged view of the city. These points are very sought for filming and photographic essays due to their scenic beauty, thus requiring prior authorization from the Park Management.
Toys, polysports court and gardens, widely used for picnics, are other attractions of the park.
There is also a trail, called the Sky Window, of 1.5km long that leads to the foothills of Brother Minor, which composes the Morro Dois Brethren, and can be made by beginners, with short-distance climb points. In the year 2022 the trail receives a revitalization with inclusion of signage, support bars, opening of viewpoints thus encouraging the use of the trail by tourists. Walking can occur along the entire trail, but the use of bicycles is restricted to the paved roads of the unit.
Morro Dois Irmãos went through a reforestation process, through a program developed by the Municipal Department of Environment of Rio de Janeiro. The Mutirão Reforestation Programme uses local workforce to recover and restore degraded ecosystems.
Today the vegetation is in a secondary stage of ecological succession, requiring human efforts to reduce to the maximum the amount of species that do not belong to our region, the so-called invasive exotic species. Some of these species, such as jaqueira and micos, are able to establish, develop and reproduce in such a proportion that compromise the development and permanence of native species, those of natural occurrence of the local ecosystem.
