With many incredible exhibitions and always diversifying, a great option for art lovers
Occupying two buildings of the Praça Mauá, the museum, which won the international architecture award in 2013 (year of its inauguration), promotes a cross-sectional reading of the history of the city, its social fabric, its symbolic life, conflicts, contradictions, challenges and social expectations. Proactive space to support education and culture, the museum was born with a school – the School of the Look – whose museological proposal is innovative: to provide the development of a reference educational program for actions in Brazil and abroad, by combining art and education from the curatorial program that guides the institution.
The museum complex comprises 15 thousand square meters and includes eight exhibition rooms and about 2,400 square meters, divided into four floors; the School of the Look and areas of technical support and reception, as well as services to the public.
The two buildings that form the institution are united through a square, a walkway and a fluid, wave-shaped cover – the most striking feature of the architects' handwriting – turning them into a harmonic set. In addition, from the terrace you can enjoy a stunning view of the Praça Mauá.
Access to the site is very practical, with a wide transport option: bus, subway, train, barge, VLT and bicycle.
See the museum website to check the exhibition you will find on your visit.
