Gutessen
After 20 years providing much of the food tasted at Jewish community parties, Gutessen opened its restaurant in a nice house in Humaitá.
It's in the Gutessen that cousins Marcia Zonenschein and Silvia Flaksman perpetuate the gastronomic work initiated by the matriarch Dulce Flaksman offering traditional Jewish cuisine. Rare iguarias at the Rio tables, borsht, cold beet soup with cream and marinated herring are tasty appetizers.
As a main course, the varenike, potato-filled pasta covered with fried onions, and the falafel accompanied by Israeli salad are excellent suggestions. On Saturdays, the request remains the hut, feijoada in Jewish fashion, prepared with white beans, barley, meat and vegetables. Finish the visit by choosing between a slice of honey cake or apple strudel.
