The General Archive of the City of Rio de Janeiro was established in 1567 at the time of the founding of the city.
The General Archive of the City of Rio de Janeiro was established in 1567 at the time of the founding of the city. During the following centuries, he accumulated the official documents produced by the City Hall and, in the Republican period, by the City Hall. Currently, it also holds in custody collections of private documents of mayors, administrators, teachers, engineers and personalities of Rio’s life.
