On April 30, World Jazz Day is celebrated. The date was established by UNESCO in 2011 (with the first official celebration in 2012) to highlight the role of gender in promoting peace, unity and freedom. The initiative came from the pianist and ambassador of the entity, Herbie Hancock. Here in Rio, jazz doesn't go well. Throughout the week, the city has a program spread across different neighborhoods, bringing together traditional houses, bars and outdoor spaces.
Attractions by different locations
One of the highlights is Blue Note Rio. Located in Copacabana, space is considered one of the most traditional by jazz lovers and brings together renowned artists and new talents in intimate performances. Still in the neighborhood, the historic Beco das Garrafas, cradle of bossa nova, also enters the climate with shows that rescue the essence of the genre and its Brazilian influences.
At the Center, jazz is also present. Mooyo Bar and Dolores Club in the Lapa region offer a diverse programming that mixes jazz, soul and other musical aspects. Near there, the Cardoso Warehouse appears as a relaxed option for those seeking good music in a welcoming environment. At Flamengo, the Palace of Music usually receives attractions that exalt the genre.
In Laranjeiras, São Salvador Square is consolidated as one of the main outdoor meeting points, bringing together musicians and audiences on jazz wheels. At Leblon, Liz Cocktail Bar combines sophisticated cocktail shop with trails marked by the characteristic improvisation of style. Other highlights include Surreal Bar and Macuna Arte Bar, which reinforce the diversity of programming with live performances and environments that dialogue with different audiences.
