The Carnaval of Rua do Rio will take traditional blocks and lively programming to the streets, squares and beaches of the Center to the South Zone, passing through the North Zone, West Zone and the port region. Black Ball String, Sky on Earth, Barbas Block, Boitata Cord, Sympathy It is Almost Love, Ipanema Band, Bangalafumenga, Agytoê, Afoxé Sons of Gandhi, Block 442, Charanga Talisman, Orangeda, Sand, Sergeant Pepper and Fervo of Lud are some of the events in this year's programming.
Between Saturday (14) and Wednesday (18) of Carnaval, historical blocks, symbolic processions and copyright proposals will gather different generations and reinforce the Carnaval Street as living heritage of the city, meeting space and democratic expression.
Highlights of Programming
On Saturday (14), some of the most traditional blocks of the carnaval carioca will parade around the city. The Center will receive the Black Ball Cordão, known for bringing to the streets an unmistakable visual identity, marked by black and white costumes and the sound of its wind orchestra, maintained by professional musicians and veterans of the carnaval. Founded in 1918, the bloc was born from the meeting of friends and journalists inspired by the old carnival cords and still preserves an aesthetic and repertoire that exalt the classic marches and the traditional spirit of folia. With songs such as “Wonderful City”, “Mama I Want”, “Give Me Money There” and “The Garden”, besides sambas and successes of different times, the parade must gather thousands of people in the Black Circuit Gil, occupying mainly the Street First of March and Avenida Presidente Antônio Carlos. In Santa Teresa, Heaven on Earth will take the hillsides of the neighborhood with its banners, handcrafted costumes and characters of the popular imaginary, in a procession approaching a carnival procession. In Botafogo, the Barbas Block will reinforce the Bohemian and cultural tradition of the area with a repertoire that mixes marchinhas, classical sambas and popular songs in collective singing climate.
Saturday will also have room for irreverence and creative freedom with diverse blocks. The Escangalha, in the Jardim Botânico, will bet on the aesthetics of the exaggeration and the mix of rhythm, the Friends of the Onça, in the Flamengo, will bring humor and carnival satire with critical references to everyday and customs and, in the Leme, the Bloc Brasil will celebrate the musical diversity of the country. In the Center, the Exaggerated Block will transform the parade into a great collective choir inspired by Cazuza's work, while the Multiblock and the Terreirada will reaffirm, each in its own way, the strength of the carnaval as territory of musical excellence, memory and ancestry.
On Sunday (15), the program will highlight traditions that connect cultural memory, ancestry and engagement. The Cordão do Boitatá will transform Square XV, in the Center, into a large open-air lounge with its dance, led by an orchestra recognized by musical excellence and a repertoire that mixes historical marches, traditional sambas and copyright compositions. In Ipanema, Sympathy It is Almost Love will celebrate its 40 years with a tribute to the indigenous population, reaffirming the link between carnaval and ancestry and keeping its trajectory marked by citizen participation and cultural mobilization.
On Monday (16), the highlight will be the concentration of large blocks in the Aterro do Flamengo and the Center. The morning will start early with the Veja Cá Minha Flor, in the Avenue Marechal Câmara, continues with Sergeant Pimenta, who performs at the Aterro do Flamengo with his mix of Beatles and Brazilian percussion, followed by the Carousel of Emotions, funk reference block. In São Conrado, the Stay With Me will take to the waterfront the romantic climate of the “retro payback”, and other processions like Dog Tired, Samba Club, Vagalume o Verde and Quizomba! will complete the programming spread across different neighborhoods of the city.
On Tuesday (17), the Black Circuit Gil, in the Center, will receive the megablock Fervo da Lud, commanded by the singer Ludmilla, while the traditional Carmelitas will again parade early in Santa Teresa. Throughout the day, the Ipanema Band will make special tributes, the Flying Orchestra will animate the Aterro do Flamengo and the Maracatu River will take the streets of the Lapa.
Already on Ash Wednesday (18), the Cordão do Me Burys in the Fourth and other blocks scattered around the city will close the holiday with more celebrations and festive occupation of the public space.
The full schedule can be checked in the Rio Blocks application 2026 and on the official website www.carnavalderua.rio Making sure all the revelers know where and when the revelry is going to happen.
