It's not every day that one of the biggest sights in town turns 110. O Copacabana Fort and Army Historical Museum - who receive about 420,000 tourists annually - celebrate their anniversary with special programming. On 25 and 26/10, the entrance will be free, with a presentation of the Strong Orchestra of Copacabana. Every Tuesday is free.
Built in 1914, at the site of the old Church of Our Lady of Copacabana, the Fort had as its mission to strengthen the defense of Guanabara Bay. With an area of 114.169 m2, it was considered, at the time, the most modern War Square in Latin America. More than 70 years later, the Coast Artillery Batteries were disabled, giving way to the Army Historical Museum. Today, space is an important center for preserving military memory and also a place of leisure and culture in Rio de Janeiro. The Forte maintains its original features, such as the 12 meters thick outer walls, facing the sea. At the entrance, the Coat of the Republic welcomes visitors, symbolizing the importance of this historical heritage.
In addition to its cultural and historical relevance, the Fort of Copacabana also stands out for gastronomy. The Colombo Confectionery offers its menu beyond traditional 21 years ago. O coffee 18 of the Fort, more modern, serves options for breakfast, lunch and snacks throughout the day, with a privileged view of the edge of Copacabana and Leme, two of the most charming neighborhoods in Rio. If you have not yet visited, it is worth exploring this unique space, full of history and beautiful landscapes!
