Rio de Janeiro was chosen to host the next edition of the Annual General Assembly (AGM) and the World Air Transport Summit (WATS), the main events of world aviation, organized by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 June 2026.
In addition to discussing urgent issues of the air sector, such as energy transition, regional connectivity, sustainability and economic volatility, the event will serve as the stage for investment announcements, new alliances and regulatory initiatives.
For the Association, the choice of Rio as the seat of the next meeting is also symbolic for the history of Brazilian aviation, birthplace of Alberto Santos-Dumont, considered one of the pioneers of world aviation. His 14-bis flight in 1906 was one of the first autonomous take-off records of an aircraft with its own propulsion.
This will be the first time AGM will take place outside Asia since the pandemic, marking the return of the event to Brazil after more than 20 years. Recognized as one of the most important meetings in the sector, AGM will bring together global leaders and strengthen Rio’s strategic role as a hub for innovation and connectivity.
