Rio’s Carnaval reinforces actions to protect women against harassment

In the Carnaval of Rua 2026, Rio reinforces actions to combat harassment and violence against women, with awareness campaigns and an operation to support and welcome the female public during the revelry.

The expansion of the teams in 2026 occurs after the increase in the number of visits to women in major events in the last year. The Municipal Secretariat of Policies for Women warns that periods of large public concentrations tend to intensify cases of violence, especially associated with alcohol abuse and other substances.

The initiative integrates the planning of the Carnaval de Rua and has the work of the Secretariat, with specialized teams distributed across different points of the city.

Between the days February 17 and 22, the Secretariat will act with teams formed by psychologists, lawyers and social workers, all duly identified and prepared to offer immediate care in cases of harassment or violence against women.

The services include qualified listening, guidance and referrals to police stations, courts and other services of the protection network. The actions take place in the street blocks and in the Carnaval of the parks, with special attention to the territories of greater public concentration, such as the Center and part of the South Zone, without leaving out the North Zone and the West Zone.

Awareness and guidance campaign

In addition to direct service, the operation includes an awareness campaign with the distribution of information materials, such as stickers with the message It's not no, windscreens and other educational items. The mobilizers also advise women on how to ask for help and disclose official channels of care available during the holidays.
