Rio exceeds 1 million foreign tourists mark in 2025

The whole world is meeting in Rio. This is what the latest data released by Embratur, in partnership with the Federal Police and the Ministry of Tourism. The information, available at the agency's Data Portal, shows that between January and May 2025, more than 1 million international tourists landed in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. This number represents a growth of 52.3% compared to the same period of 2024, when 677,878 visitors were registered.

In total, 1.032.537 people came to experience landscapes, culture and Rio energy. Only in May were 130,546 foreign visitors. The result shows an increase 55.2% higher than the same period last year, which had 84.116. This increase reflects the strength of Rio as one of the most desired destinations on the planet and accompanies the realization of major events that moved the city, such as Madonna's historic show in Copacabana in 2024, and Lady Gaga's presentation last month, which gathered crowds and had enormous international repercussions.

The report also points to the main countries of origin of these travellers. The leadership is from Argentina, with 388.531 people. Then come Chile (170,669). The United States (114.321) ranked third in this ranking, followed by Uruguay (45.512) and France (38.968), closing the top 5.

And the movement doesn't stop there.
