Tom Jobim International Airport, Galeão, set a record in the first two months of 2025, receiving over 473,000 foreign tourists. This is the largest number of visitors registered for January and February since 1977, according to RIOgaleão, a company that manages the airport. There were 223.613 people arriving in January and 249.713 in February, totaling 473.326 tourists, not counting those who arrived during the carnaval, which took place in March.
Another survey, made by the Federal Police and published by the state government, points out that the total number of visitors in Rio since the beginning of the year has already exceeded 500,000.
In 2024, Brazil broke a record, receiving more than 6.6 million foreign tourists, according to the Ministry of Tourism. This was the largest annual number recorded since the beginning of the counts in 1970. The growth in the number of visitors in the country has been consistent since the end of the pandemic.
For 2025, the goal is to reach 6.9 million tourists, surpassing the 2016 record, when Rio hosted the Olympics.
With this good performance, both the state and the municipal government are optimistic with the increase in the number of visitors. The state expects a 20% increase, projecting the arrival of 1.8 million foreign tourists, while the Municipal Tourism Secretariat predicts an increase of at least 15%.
And to think that the year is just beginning... Come to Rio!
