From rock to maracatu: Rio blocks play songs for all tastes

Different and plural, the Carnaval of Rio street goes far beyond the marchinhas and the great hits of summer. Within the official calendar of 2026, there are blocks that go from rock to maracatu, as well as other options with thematic associations, through tributes, fanfares and other rhythms that dominate the heart of the crowd.

One of the most famous is the Rock Block, which was created in 2014, and will perform its parade on February 7, at 2:00 p.m., in Tiradentes Square. With original arrangements, joining the rock and roll weight with the samba swing, the club has heavy guitars and tuned drums to please all audiences.

The next day, February 8th, two irreverent blocks with different rhythms leave the river. The Chora Me Liga parades at 7am, on Avenida Infante Dom Henrique, in Gloria. The club plays country music and drags crowds with classics of the genre and the hits of the moment. The Fire and Passion, one of the darlings of the Cariocas, celebrates the romance of the tacky, with classics from Wando, Reginaldo Rossi and Sidney Magal, at 8am, at Largo San Francisco de Paula, in the Center.
