Cariocas and tourists who want to take advantage of the National Museum Week schedule will have a special opportunity in Rio. Until Sunday (24), the Army Historical Museum, located in the Fort of Copacabana, will offer free entry for visitors who follow the profile space officer on social networks. The action also celebrates the 39 years of the museum, one of the best known historical and tourist sites in the city.
With the gratuitousness, visitors will be able to circulate throughout the area of the fort and know the museum's collection, which brings together historical pieces, exhibitions and records related to the trajectory of the Brazilian Army. In addition to cultural programming, the space also offers dining options overlooking the sea, such as the traditional Colombo Café do Forte Confectionery and Café 18 do Forte.
The initiative is part of the National Program of the Week of Museums, held in different cities of the country, with activities aimed at the valorization of memory, culture and historical heritage.
The story of the Fort
Built in 1914, at the site of the former Church of Our Lady of Copacabana, the Fort had as its mission to strengthen the defense of Guanabara Bay. With an area of 114,000 square meters, it was considered at the time the most modern war square in Latin America.
More than 70 years later, Costa Artillery batteries were deactivated, giving way to the Army Historical Museum. Currently, space is an important center for the preservation of military memory and also one of the main places of leisure, culture and tourism in Rio de Janeiro.
The Forte maintains impressive original features, such as the 12 meters thick outer walls facing the sea. At the entrance, the Coat of the Republic welcomes visitors, symbolizing the historical relevance of the heritage.
Service Schedule From 10am to 7pm Address: Colonel Eugênio Franco Square, number 1 — Post 6, Copacabana Need to follow the official profile of Forte on social networks
