The Elbow Brewery will be the new meeting point of Rua da Beere, in the heart of the Rio Center, from 17 June (Tuesday). The space is the result of the partnership between the award-winning breweries Búzios and Uncle Ruy, in addition to the entrepreneur Raphael Vidal, known for transforming the Largo de São Francisco da Prainha (Largo da Prainha) into gastronomic pole with projects such as the bar Prainha breath and the restaurant February Two.
Located in two remains of 1877, with 200 m2 each, in the traditional Rua da Carioca, the house rescues the climate of the old bars, gathering classic snacks, artisan chopps, samba and gafieira.
The property, which housed the Castro Brothers hardware house and the Bag of Gold travel store for decades, had its details restored. On the ground floor, where the coppery works, the hydraulic tiles were recovered after the removal of modern floors and concretes. Today, they are the base for 30 wooden tables with blue towels. A marble counter of 10 meters, coated with wood from the original demolition, accompanies eight taps of chops from the partner breweries, with capacity for 5,000 liters, installed in the mezzanines, visible to the customers.
The walls of the house keep the original bricks apparent, partially covered by tiles that follow a second counter, 20 meters, that runs through the hall and serves as support – inspiration for the name Elbow. The sidewalk also enters the climate with a third counter, 10 meters, in front of the window with industrial structure that guarantees the air conditioning of the interior. In all, there are 80 seats and 40 linear meters of counter.
The menu, inspired by the typical cuisine of the Rio de Janeiro botequins, brings options such as bovine breast with potatoes, stuffed jiló and pork knee, as well as delights in the greenhouse. On the second floor, the public can enjoy nights of gafieira and samba wheels, celebrating the bohemian soul of the Center.
Among the chop styles are IPAs, Reds, Witbiers, APAs, Summers and Stouts, especially the Carioca Chop, a lightweight, creamy Pilsen created especially for Elbow. It is served at a different temperature: 100-metre coils pass through a cold chamber at -3 °C and, in the case of Pilsen, also by a thermal box with 50 kg of ice.
The Cotovelo Brewery integrates the project Rua da Beere, part of the Reviver Centro program, which seeks to revitalize the Rio Center, encouraging the nocturnal use of urban spaces and strengthening the creative and gastronomic economy of the city.
