Carnaval Street 2026: traditional blocks open the official folia in the city this weekend, days 17/01/ and 18/01

The Carnaval of Rua do Rio de Janeiro 2026 officially starts this weekend, in the days 17 and 18 January, marking the beginning of yet another edition of the largest popular festival in the country. The schedule continues until the day 22 February, occupying streets, squares and avenues of all regions of the city.

Throughout the carnival period, they are planned 460 street block parades, selected between 803 registered, with the expectation of mobilizing around 6 million revelers Between locals and tourists. The proposal is to offer an extensive, diverse and decentralized agenda, with options for audiences of all ages and profiles, including children and family blocks, as well as large concentrations and manifestations of strong cultural impact.

The distribution of parades reaffirms the presence of the Carnaval Street in all neighborhoods of the city. O Center of Rio concentrates the largest number of presentations, with 135 scheduled parades followed by South Zone with 99 for Large Tijuca with 63, and North Zone with 56, as well as other regions that also receive intense programming.
