Carnaval: route of megablocks in the Center of Rio is now called the Gil Black Circuit

In honor of Black singer Gil, the route established by the city hall for the parade of megablocks of the carnaval carioca will now be called Black Circuit Gil, more precisely, Circuit Blocks of Carnaval of Rua Preta Gil. The change was made official through a decree signed by the mayor Eduardo Paes, published in the Official Gazette of Tuesday (22).

The new circuit, which has as its highlight the traditional Bloc da Preta, founded by the singer herself, begins in Rua First of March, between the streets of Rosario and the Listener, and follows by Avenida Presidente Antônio Carlos until the height of Rua Araújo Porto Alegre, where the dispersion of the foliões occurs.

Black Gil, who died last Sunday (20) in the United States, was passionate about Rio's carnaval. Her love for the party was so great that she expressed her desire to have her funeral procession in an electric trio, a request that symbolizes the strong connection of the artist with the revelry. In addition to creating one of the most famous megablocks in the city, Black has also occupied the post of queen of the samba school Mangueira.
